Emergency Electrician

A 24 hour electrician for Melbourne when things go wrong

Electrical emergencies do not keep business hours. A tripped main switch on a Friday night, a burning smell behind a wall, half the office in darkness before a Monday deadline — these need someone who answers the phone and turns up, not a message bank.

We prioritise genuine emergencies ahead of scheduled work. When you call, you speak to our office, not an overseas call centre, and you get a realistic arrival window rather than a vague promise. If we cannot get to you quickly we will say so, so you can call someone else instead of waiting.

The first job is always to make the site safe. Then we diagnose properly rather than guessing, explain what we found in plain language, and give you the price before we repair. Temporary make-safe now and a permanent fix booked for later is often the sensible call, and we will tell you when that is the case.

Common emergencies we attend: complete power failure, repeated RCD tripping, burning or fishy smells, scorched power points, water damage to switchboards, storm damage to overhead mains, and failed emergency lighting in commercial buildings.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about emergency electrician

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Anything with a fire or shock risk, or that leaves a property unsafe or unable to operate: burning smells, sparking, scorched outlets, exposed conductors, complete power loss, water on a switchboard, or damaged service lines. If you are unsure, call — we would rather triage it over the phone than have you guess.

What should I do before you arrive?

Turn off the affected circuit at the switchboard if it is safe to reach. Do not use the outlet or appliance involved. If there is smoke, fire or a fallen power line, call 000 first, then us. Never touch a fallen line or anything near it.

Do you charge more for after-hours work?

There is an after-hours rate, and we tell you what it is on the phone before we dispatch. What does not change is that you get a price before we repair — you will never receive an open-ended hourly bill after the fact.

How fast can you get to me?

It depends on where you are and what is already booked. Melbourne's east and inner-east are usually quickest from our Bayswater base. We will give you a realistic window on the call, and if we cannot help quickly we will say so up front.

Can you fix it on the first visit?

Most of the time. Our vans carry common parts, so faults, RCDs, circuit breakers and damaged outlets are usually sorted on the spot. If a part has to be ordered we make the site safe, leave you with power where we can, and book the return.

Do you do emergency work for businesses?

Yes. We keep planned-maintenance customers' site details on file so we already know your board layout when you call. See commercial electrician for how the maintenance arrangement works.

Why does my safety switch keep tripping?

It is doing its job — something is leaking current to earth. It could be a faulty appliance, water in an outdoor circuit, or damaged cable. Never tape a safety switch on or replace it with a higher rating. Call us and we will find the actual fault.

Is your emergency work covered by the warranty?

Yes. Emergency repairs carry the same lifetime warranty on labour as our scheduled work, and we issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety just the same.
